i wrote this to put covertly on a friend's who is particularly annoyed by sniffling noses. there is no CDEV for the control panel—yet. just drop sniff™ in your system folder and reboot. if you don't have much memory you might want to skip this one; it'll eat around 49k or your memory for two sniffs and a clearing of the throat sound. the short sniff happens 40 percent of the time, followed by the squeaky sniff and a small cough 30 percent each. your mac will make a noise from 15 seconds to about 3 minutes apart. if anybody cares i'll write a CDEV to change these parameters and choose sounds from the control panel.
if you're techno-inclined, sniff™ uses 'snd ' resources ID's 1, 2 and 3 in it's resource fork. change them if you like and distribute this freely to anyone who wants it (or doesn't know you put it on their computer). i've tested it on a mac plus under system 6.0.4, an old mac II with system 6.0.7 and a mac IIci with 6.0.4, though it should work with any post system 6.0.0 mac and system 7 too.
version 0.9.0b1 may not have worked on pre 68020 systems due to moon phase (read: programmer error).
sniff™ is copyright 1992 by timothy miller and is free to anyone who wants it. you may not charge anything but a reasonable duplication fee (read: nothing) for it.
